I’m currently working on a few new posts for the upcoming week (i.e. my March wish list, more favorite etsys, a new recipe, etc.) but until those are ready, I’m going to share some random instagrams from the last few days.  Somebody likes her photo apps a little too much.  Happy March!

Attempting Geek Chic

Yesterday, I borrowed my friend’s Nikon dslr.  What a treat!  I use the term “borrowed” very loosely because I still have it and don’t plan on returning it anytime soon.  Kidding (kind of).  So what was the first thing I decided to do with it?  Take photos of m’self obviously.  Cue: ego inflation.

Just kidding, I mostly took photos of my dog but since this is not a dog blog, I’ll stick with some outfit shots.  I’m really into collared shirts and feel extra sophisticated when they’re buttoned all the way to the top.  If you didn’t know any better, you’d think I was on my way to calculus class or a very important business meeting.  But no!  That’s the power of a collared shirt, my friend.

Next time I plan on adding thick-rimmed glasses, a pleated skirt, and argyle socks.  Then my geek chic look would be totally complete.

Oh No He Didn’t

Oh, yes he did.  When I got home from work today, this letter was sitting on my kitchen table.

hello handmade valentine

(Sorry, I blurred out my address) Have I ever mentioned how much I love calligraphy?  Or how much I obsess over vintage stamps and handwritten love notes?  Well, I guess I mentioned it to Kyle a few times over the years because look what showed up in my mailbox this Valentine’s Day.  Now I may or may not have asked Kyle to send me a Hello Handmade love note last Valentine’s Day and it may or may not have ever happened, but he pulled through this year.  Let me tell you, HE PULLED THROUGH!  Look at how beautiful that thing is.  He is the sweetest of sweets!!

hello handmade valentine

I opened the sealed envelope ever so carefully and inside, there was another envelope with my name scrawled on it.

hello handmade valentine

Sealed with wax, no less.  BRB, dying.  A wax seal??  COME ON!  There is nothing cooler!

hello handmade valentine

Inside of that envelope was a Valentine card.  They may have F’ed up my initials but I’m totally willing to let that slide.  So precious.  At this point in the card-opening-process, you can imagine my hyperventilation.  Whoaaaa there tiger, BREATHE.  This is what calligraphy-ed love notes do to me you guys.

I opened the card to find the sweetest of notes from my Valentine.  Sigh.

hello handmade valentine

…and then I ate one (read: two…and a half) chocolate cupcakes with strawberry frosting.  Hope your Valentine’s Day was extra special this year! xoxoxoxo

Hello Handmade Valentine cards can also be seen here and here.

11 Goals for 2011

  1. Edit my closet: I recently took inventory of my clothes and I have 10 t-shirts with holes in them, all of which I wear on a daily basis.  Those need to be gone immediately.  In their place, I want classic items that will take me from season to season, i.e. a well-tailored black blazer, an all-occasion LBD, tees that cost more than $5.99 a piece.
  2. Sign up for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): Several of my friends are enrolled in the CSA program and I’ve been dying to join as well.
  3. Dedicate more time to my blog: I. Love. Blogging.  But I also have a full-time job.  Sometimes I get home from work and just VEG OUT.  I’m going to quit vegging and start putting more time into my (slightly neglected) child, m’blog!
  4. Drive less: I spend way too much time driving.  I need to live closer to work…
  5. Read one classic book a month: In college, I would take English literature classes for fun. I know, who does that?  I miss reading good classics though, so I’m going to start with this one.
  6. Try recipes out of my comfort zone: When cooking, I tend to stick to recipes that I won’t F up.  This year, I want to spread my wings in the kitchen.  Perhaps with a chocolate souffle?
  7. Take an online photography class: Photography is one of my favorite hobbies but I definitely don’t have the technical skills needed to take really great photos.  Thus, I must take a class.
  8. Make coffee with a french press: I never knew that making coffee could be such a sexy undertaking until I saw this video.  Now all I want to do is buy a french press.  And have my boyfriend make me coffee with it.
  9. Attend music festivals: I’m going to start with Coachella, then possibly move on to Bonnaroo?
  10. Pay it forward: I just want to pass around lots of love and smiles this year, especially because so much love and smiles have been passed on to me.
  11. Start a book: I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned this before, but I want to write a book.  It’s always been a goal of mine but this year, I’m going to start!  Trust me, it’s not going to be literary genius.  I’m leaning more towards the fantasy fiction persuasion, perhaps in the young adult section?  No??  I’ve got all sorts of ideas swirling around in m’little brain and I can’t wait to write them all down.

Hey friends,

Taking a quick little hiatus from m’bloggy.  I’ll be back next Monday!!!  I’ve been out for the count since last weekend and won’t be able to post the rest of the this week.  You’re probably thinking: “This girl posts about once a week anyway, SO WHO CARES!?”  True, true, you got me there.  But guess what?  After this week, I’m going to start posting more regularly.  It’s just that this weekend, I have a HUGE work event that is going to consume my every waking hour for the next several days (very excited though!).

In the meantime…
