Stop being so dang pretty all the time, Los Angeles.

One of my favorite things about this crazy city of mine is that you can be grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s one minute…and then 15 minutes later you can be on the top of a mountain eating Cookie Butter or drinking Traderade.  Just kidding on the Cookie Butter, but seriously there are so many great places to hike and explore.

For this particular adventure, we drove through the flats of Beverly Hills (aka lots of mini mansions), then up into the hills of Beverly Hills (aka giant mansions), then up even higher on a windy street up the side of a mountain until we reached our destination at Franklin Canyon Park.  There are trails, walks, parks, reservoirs, and lots of cute puppies everywhere you look.  We decided to do a small hike to the top so we could overlook the reservoir.  What is it about bodies of water that are so appealing?  I don’t know but we were darn excited to see this thing.  When we got to the top, the reservoir was drained and empty.  WHAT THE HECK?  Anyway, so we took the long way down the mountain and snapped pictures on our iPhones.  Can you believe these are iPhone pics??

*a note to locals who want to hike this: Stop completely at all STOP signs.  We’re talking a 5-second stop at least!  There are cameras at every STOP sign up in the park and they want you to give them a $100 for rolling through them.  Be good and stop!  We know from experience.

Can’t they all be 3-day weekends?

3-day weekending / the style eater

This weekend was extra great because it was THREE DAYS LONG.  I love when that happens, don’t you?  A whole extra day to frolic around and pretend I have no responsibilities.  You may have noticed the spotty blogging in the last few weeks (aka months) but awards season takes its toll on this gal.  I’ve been work-work-working nonstop and it leaves little room for extracurriculars.  Hopefully after this week, I’ll be back in the blogging game at full speed!

So what’s been going on lately?

+ I went to Ann-Marie’s gorgeous engagement party.  Will share more photos from it soon!

+ I’m having a pretty serious love affair with Wool and the Gang.  Their products are just so amazing.

+ I planned a trip with Kyle to Montreal.  If you have any Montreal recs, send them my way!

+ I’m feeling extra inspired and motivated after watching the Beyonce documentary on HBO.

+ I’m feeling extra depressed after the season finale of Downton Abbey.  I can’t even discuss…too soon.

+ I have a few new ESSENTIALS to share with you (here are some old ones).  That column kind of fell off the face of the planet but really, I do have essentials to share!

+ What?  It’s already mid-February?  Happy, happy birthday to my baby brother, Josh, who is now 15 years old.  I can’t even believe it.

Grammy night / the style eater

On Sunday, I had the honor of attending the Grammy Awards with my bf and a few of my coworkers.  We had such a lovely time, singing and dancing and applauding on cue.  Our seats were adjacent to the stage but we could still see (mostly) everything that was going on.  Oh!!  And I caught a bunch of Taylor Swift’s heart confetti from her performance.  So that’s a plus!

I  also love any excuse to wear fun dresses and red lipstick.  By the way, recognize this dress as the one I wore in my best friend’s wedding??  Everyone always says they can rewear their bridesmaids dress but I actually can wear it and DID!

PS I took a few videos on the Vine app if you have it.  I’m @thestyleeater so come find me!

HEART PIES!

heart pies / the style eater

Okay so I’m not really a Valentine’s Day person and can do without all the hearts and flowers if you ask me, but I was baking a pie and couldn’t resist making heart-shaped versions.  I rolled the dough out, mixed the strawberry filling together, and then searched high and low for my heart cookie cutters, through literally every cabinet in my kitchen, and those things were nowhere in site.  Disappeared!  So I did the blogger unthinkable and free-handed those dang hearts.  Some are a little lopsided but for the most part, they turned out pretty decent!

When they first came out of the oven, it looked like a heart pie massacre, what with the strawberry goodness oozing out everywhere, so I almost didn’t even deem them blogworthy enough to post.  But they tasted so delicious, I decided to post anyway.  Pie crust + strawberries is always a winning combination, bad photos or not.  And it’s a perfect treat for the upcoming holiday of love, so make it for your lovers and friends, my little conversation hearts!

On 26 & the worst week ever.

26th birthday / the style eater

This face is my WTF-IS-ABOUT-TO-HAPPEN? face.  It’s a mixture of confusion and anxiety that comes with knowing that you’re about to be sick and no matter how many packets of Emergen-C you partake in, it’s coming for ya and it’s coming for ya good.

PS I hate when people complain about being sick.  But I’m giving myself a free pass because I got the flu on my birthday.  Also, my boyfriend gave me the flu, so he had it on my birthday too.  Also, I got a flu shot.  All of those things combined equals a giant WTF.

So we got like this really horrible strain of the flu, where we slept for 90% of the week and were completely unaware of what was going on in the outside world.  Normally on sick days, I’ll watch Kardashian marathons but no way in hell was that happening this time.  I was passed the F out.  I was also hallucinating a lot about Lady Sybil.  Why, Lady Sybil??  Why?

Anyway so my birthday week was the worst ever.  You win some, you lose some.  Moving onward and here’s hoping the rest of the year is a bit better!
