BACK TO THE GRIND

I’ve been totally off the blogging grid for the past week and for good reason! The wifi situation in Montreal was MEH so I couldn’t do much computing while I was on vacation. But the good news is that everything else about Montreal (and New York and Connecticut!) was downright amazing. We ate nonstop for 9 straight days and only stopped to take photos of pretty buildings. The weather was freezing (for me, anything below 60 degrees is borderline ridiculous) but we managed pretty well and luckily had no rain.

But we’re home now and I have SO MANY photos and stories to share, including all of the fun places we ate and shopped. I’m still trying to sort through my photos (ooh all 1,500 of them?) so it may take me a bit to get them posted but they’ll be up soon! I’ll start with posts on New York, then Connecticut, and then finish with Montreal. So come back for LOTS of travel photos and recaps!

new york city / the style eater

I’m convinced that NYC’s spring is the best kind of spring. Ok I’m sure Washington DC would argue that their cherry blossoms automatically put them in first place, but New York sure comes close! Also, I’m used to seasonless Los Angeles so maybe every other place besides Southern CA has an equally beautiful transition into warmer weather? Either way, I’ve taken about a hundred photos of blooming trees over the last few days in NYC so beware of those kind of pics for the next 20 days or so.

Posting has been light around here and since I’m heading up to Montreal today, it might continue to be light for a few more days. But I’m updating my Instagram pretty much all day long so come find me there! –> @thestyleeater

Happy Spring!

THOUGHTS ON A MONDAY

Filed Under : MY LIFE - TRAVEL

+ I’m a notorious over-packer when I go on trips. NOTORIOUS, I tell you. Also, I usually pack at the very last minute. We’re talking 3am the night before an 8am flight. But I have a 9-day trip coming up in a few days and shockingly, I’ve already laid out everything I want to bring and it’s not that much. Is this what growing up feels like?

+ This weekend was for hanging out in sweatpants and watching the live stream of Coachella. The best kind of weekends, am I right?

+ In January, I got a brand new iMac and it’s now DEAD. Wtf, Apple? Thanking my lucky stars we got the warranty, otherwise I guess we’d be SOL?

+ Anyone have any last minute recs for Montreal? I’ve gotten some amazing recs so far (thank you!), but would love to know if there are any places I MUST go/see/eat/shop?

Happy mid-April! (WHAT?)

OUR HOUSE SMELLS LIKE CAMPFIRE

I really love a good smelling house (but who doesn’t?) and right now, we’re all about burning incense in my apartment. We burn miniature-sized logs in that miniature-sized cabin and our whole apartment smells of woodsy trees and burning fire. And YES, the smoke billows out of the log cabin’s chimneys – I can’t take it, it’s so cute.

Sometimes we’ll also burn a candle in the same scent family (like a cedar wood-based candle) to really kick it up a notch. This Unionmade x Baxter candle is our all-time favorite. All we need are ingredients for s’mores and we’d have a full-fledged campfire situation.

What are your favorite kind of scents?

*PS, here’s the log cabin!

DOWNTOWN + NORTHERN GRADE

The Arts District in downtown is one of my favorite areas of Los Angeles. Couple that with beautiful weather and a good hair day and you got yourself a perfect Saturday, my friends. We initially went to check out NorthernGrade, a menswear/accessories/collectibles pop-up (aka Kyle’s version of heaven on earth), but then decided we needed to visit all of our favorite places in the area as well, including Poketo (I can’t leave this store without buying at least one thing, I JUST CAN’T), Apolis, Wurstkuche, and The Pie Hole.

Also, a new home decor store moved into the Arts Distrist and I almost dropped straight dead on the floor when I walked into it. It’s called Hammer & Spear and if you love a 70s vibe and/or vintage and/or breathing, you will drop straight dead on the floor when you walk into it. The hours are a bit funky so make sure to check them before going.

Hope your weekend was lovely!
