CURRENTLY BUYING: STRIPES ONLY

My wardrobe is experiencing a surge in stripes as of late and I’m not complaining for a second. When I’m online shopping, it’s like my eyes ONLY see stripes and I buy all of them. I kid you not, these are all purchases I’ve made within the past month or so. It’s becoming a problem. But they’re so classic and I can wear them forever and ever, right? That’s my line of thinking anyway. Also, tax returns and stuff.

Anyways, I’ve always been partial to stripes and tend to prefer the Breton or sailor variety. I’m also constantly trying to replicate this outfit at least once a week, if not more. In that stripe pile above are some of the new wardrobe additions (TAX RETURNS, I SAID). Oh but the Skargorn. You HAVE TO get the Skargorn. Also, it’s on sale right now + 20% off the sale price. DOUBLE BRUNCHING

On a rare occasion, Kyle and I will double brunch. That’s brunching on both Saturday AND Sunday, in case you’re unaware of this term I just made up. And even though brunching is my favorite activity on this planet, we actually don’t do it all that often, so partaking in it for an entire weekend was the treat of the century. Also, I love Los Angeles so much, sometimes it hurts. There’s never a shortage of good places to eat and cute neighborhoods to visit. Plus, it was Coachella weekend and that means 90% of LA residents were out of town. CAN THIS BE EVERY WEEKEND? Anyway, sometimes a weekend requires a double brunch and so we went along with it, no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.

First up…

LITTLE DOM’S
First of all, Los Feliz is one of my favorite neighborhoods and I will happily travel across 3 freeways (sometimes 4, depending on traffic) to get to it. On Saturday, we went to Little Dom’s in Loz Feliz. LD’s is a classic, old-school Italian restaurant with one of the best brunches in town. Their breakfast potatoes are next level and you can’t NOT order the blueberry ricotta pancakes. Tips & Tricks: It’s down the street from Steven Alan Outpost (their outlet) and you must go. Discounted Steven Alan is a slippery slope, but do it.

SUPERBA FOOD + BREAD
On Sunday, we popped over to the just-opened Superba Food + Bread in Venice, a sister resto to one of our favorite eateries, Superba Snack Bar. First of all, the decor is a mix of bright colors and modern designs (aka looks awesome). Plus, it has an open/airy vibe, so I wanted to stay there ALL DAY and just hang out. Kyle and I shared a few toasts (avocado and burrata), a biscuit with jam, and a vanilla sticky bun. The food was great and I can’t wait to try everything else on the menu. Plus, black mango iced tea for the win. Tips & Tricks: It’s across the street from General Store, which is my favorite store in all the land.

ESSENTIALS: ALL THE FRENCH THINGS

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in this lifetime, it’s that French women know what’s up. They’ve always got the best hairstyles, wear the coolest outfits, eat lots of croissants, drink good wine, and have really lovely, buoyant skin. What the f? Anyway, on my quest to becoming a French woman, I’ve discovered a few French beauty products that have changed my life for the better. I love them so much that they’ve become essentials (see past essentials here!). I’m serious, if Amazon stopped carrying this stuff, I’d be forced to move to France.

Details below, but first, disclaimer alert: I’m NOT a beauty expert, I just know what works for me and I like to overshare.

Embryolisse: This is a moisturizer that I use at night, after I’ve washed my face. I won’t get into all the details of my nightly routine right now, but holy heck, this stuff is good. It’s super lightweight, but somehow makes my skin feel totally moisturized and happy. I suffer from dry skin AND oily skin (really, universe?) and Embryolisse seems to balance everything out really evenly, thank the heavens. You can find it here, here, or here.

Bioderma Crealine: In it’s heart-of-hearts, Bioderma is a simple makeup remover. You soak a cotton pad and wipe all the crap off your face. BUT OMG IT’S SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT. I use it every night and it works so effortlessly. It’s also super gentle, doesn’t sting my eyes, and makes my face feel truly clean. I still wash my face afterwards with soap and water, but some people just use Bioderma to wash their face and it’s a totally OK thing to do. Also, I’ve met many makeup artists who swear by the stuff. Caudalie Beauty Elixir: I’m so addicted to this stuff that I keep a backstock of at least 3, in case I need them on the fly. Literally, they’re also good flying companions. Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir is a face spray that’s part toner and part serum and it’s loaded with essential oils. Not only does it smell amazing, but it also smoothes out my skin and tightens everything up. It’s like a spritz of goodness. I always spray it on my face in the morning, usually right after I’ve washed it. But lately, I’ve been switching it up and spraying it after I’ve put my foundation on (but before powder) and it sets everything in place. What doesn’t this stuff do? Can’t live without it. A PYRAMID FOR RINGS

One of my favorite objects on my nightstand is this glass pyramid box from ABJ Glassworks. It’s a perfect little house to store all my rings, plus it’s just so dang beautiful. I love the shape and dimension it adds to my nightstand. I’ve always been a fan of displaying my jewelry, rather than hiding it. Gold baubles are too pretty to put in drawers! I also use small, round dishes to hold my other rings, bracelets, and loose earrings as well, but those are on my dresser. I keep the pyramid on my nightstand because I usually take off all my rings after I’ve already gotten in bed slash when I’m half asleep. They used to haphazardly pile up on my nightstand, but luckily they now have a pyramid house and stay in one place. Yay for ring houses!

ACE HOTEL DOWNTOWN LA

Last weekend, we staycationed at the new Ace Hotel in downtown LA and if there’s one piece of knowledge that you take away from this blog, it’s that staycations are the best and you should do them often. I mean…being in total relaxation/vacation mode and only 10 minutes from your house? Talk about the easiest and most convenient thing to ever happen. Needless to say, it was lovely in every way and I took zero photos, aside from a handful of iPhone pics, most of which were instagrammed. Luckily, Jaymee popped by for a morning coffee (because, again, staycations are the best and all your peeps are close by) and did a mini photo sesh at the rooftop bar. I’m taking her on all my vacations. I love that girl.

Anyway, it was such a great weekend. We laid out by the pool (very small pool) on the rooftop, drank lots of micheladas, shopped around the hotel, ate a TON, and vegged out. Our hotel room had a terrace so it was fun (and scary as crap) to sit out there and admire the buildings. The room itself was small but super hip and cute. Also, the bathroom fixtures and marble countertop were next level and I wrote down all the specs – that’s how I know I’m an adult. A handful of iPhone photos:

STAYCATION STATS
ATE: Bar Ama for dinner (omg that Tex-Mex Queso, though) and L.A. Chapter for brunch (top notch avocado toast, pancakes, and granola with fruit & yogurt)
DRANK: Micheladas and Bloody Mary’s by the pool. Also, lots of water because it was 88 degrees.
SHOPPED: the new Tanner Goods store (so awesome and Kyle’s fave place), Aesop pop-up, Acne, and OAK – all within a block of the hotel

WORE: This kimono, ripped UO jeans, Isabel Marant/H&M tee, vintage Levi’s shorts, old Topshop sandals, and my new favorite bikini top.
