NEW YORK CITY: PRETTY MUCH ALL THE PHOTOS

NYC / the style eater

There’s really nothing I love more than a good ol’ trip to New York and holy heavens, this was a good one. It took me a solid 2.5 months to go through all my photos, but who’s counting really? I traveled there over Memorial Day weekend with my dude man Kyle, my best friend Jaymee, and her hubs Reis. We also spent a lot of time with my lady love, Alex, and her BF, Grant.

Anyway, this was my favorite trip to NYC yet, mostly because I got engaged, but also because we did really fun things, ate really good food, and spent time with really great people. Plus, throw in a full day in Brooklyn and then we’re talking about all the reasons why we need to move to NY asap. I also probably spent way too much money, i.e. all this stuff, but money doesn’t count when you go on vacation, is what I tell myself. I want to go back already.

A couple things to note: We stayed at The Nolitan Hotel and loved it, but I’ll do a full post on that separately. Plus, ALL the places we shopped and restaurants we ate at are coming later as well. SO STAYED TUNED.

Washington Square Park and the impending downpour. I love how people aren’t fazed at all by rain. As an LA lady, I’m very used to seeing people bunker down inside until any and all weather systems pass through.

The rooftop of our hotel was my favorite place and we went up there as often as possible. What’s funny is that no one else goes up there. We were like the only ones who took advantage of the amazing view.

My babes (Alex and Jaymee) and I at Freeman’s. The one thing about this trip that I’ll note is that we had a very strict food itinerary that we stuck to everyday. I wasn’t about to miss out on my fave NYC eateries so I made reservations at almost all the places we went to months in advance. Give me allllll the foods. More about said food in a later post.

Beers and chips & salsa on the rooftop. Why no one else took advantage of that dang roof will remain a mystery for the rest of my days.

Oh Brooklyn, you really get me every time with your picturesque streets, amazing shops, and sweet cafes on every corner. Don’t mind me, I’m just on Craigslist looking for an apartment.

These two needed their coffee fix every couple hours. I love them.

And what’s a trip to NY without a stroll through Central Park? Actually we forgot about CP altogether on our last trip and were determined to make it this time. It was overcast with a 100% chance of thunderstorms and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

ALL THE SELFIES, ALL THE TIME. This photo was an update from the photo in this post, but we just weren’t getting our angles right.

And then after this selfie, he said “Hey, why don’t we go up to the rooftop one last time?” and then proposed. That kid, always something up his sleeve.

Food and shops coming next!

Last trip to NY here, here, and here.

EAT DRINK AMERICANO / THE STYLE EATER

ONE / i FINALLY took kyle out for his birthday dinner (i say “finally” because his birthday is september 10th and you’d think i could take him out sooner because we live together but sometimes i fail as a girlfriend, don’t we all?). so we went to picca in LA and trust me when i say this: our minds were BLOWN. we’ve been to picca’s sister restaurant in dtla before (called mo chica), but i’m pretty sure japanese-inspired peruvian food is my new jam. did you watch New Girl last night? the whole episode was about picca and we got a hearty chuckle out of it. also, avocado cocktails. i mean, whattttt????

TWO / i go on a lot of business lunches and i love when people suggest fun places to meet, like hotel bel air. it’s tucked in the hills above sunset blvd and for 2 hours of my day (lunches aren’t something to mess around with), i feel like i’m on vacation. don’t even get me started on the lush greenery and beautiful grounds. it’s fancy as F so i usually feel a little out of place, but like i said in my last post, we all deserve a little fanciness once in awhile.

THREE & FOUR / i skipped work on monday to attend a super fun photography workshop with my girls, Jaymee and Ann-Marie. you can see more from our day on ann-marie’s blog, but we always have so much fun together. after the class, we had lunch at eat drink americano in the arts district and that chalkboard wall? whoever did that, you’re hired.

manhattan beach / the style eater

What’s the point of a beautiful sunset on the Manhattan Beach pier without a couple of dslrs and a few iphones? No point, I tell you. That’s what happens when Jaymee, Ann-Marie, and I get together. All bets are off. Cameras are out. Documenting begins. Gramming happens. But that’s what I love about these girls. I’ve known them FOREVER and they’re MA PEEPS. But beyond that, we’re always on the same page: cameras out at all times. We GET each other. We pose for each other. WE LOVE EACH OTHER.

^^Plus, a pre-sunset dinner at Lemonade will always hit the spot. Lemonade, why do you have to be so good all the time. Gimme those kimchi noodles every single day of my life.

friday love list

When Janelle asked me to guest blog while she and Kyle are in Portland, I got really excited because even though she is one of my best friends in real life, I feel like “guest-blogging” makes you a legit blogger.  Right!?  I was even more excited when she told me she wanted me to do her Friday Love List because I absolutely LOVE her Friday Love Lists and was excited to create my own!  So moving right along, here is my somewhat random list of things that I am loving.

  1. I live in Hawaii.  And right around this time I really start to miss California because of that season called fall that we never really see over here.  An average temp of 85 degrees means boots and scarves will cause profuse sweating (and a lot of strange looks).  If I did live in CA, these and these would be in my closet ASAP.  and my wallet would be empty.  but that’s besides the point.
  2. I recently moved into my own apartment and i’ve been on the hunt for the perfect chic chalkboard for my kitchen.  Easier said than done.  When I saw this cute DIY tutorial on Pinterest, I was sold.  And for $15?  Yeeee haw, sign me up.
  3. I have a slight crush on Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS shoes (a philanthropist, entrepreneur genius, and good looking).  They recently launched their eyewear collection and I really reallllyyy want a pair of these sunglasses.  Like the shoes that TOMS sells, same goes for their sunnies:  you buy a pair and they give a pair away.  Talk about an incentive!  All in the name of charity, right?
  4. My birthday is this weekend.  I’m mostly excited because it’s an excuse to eat copious amounts ice cream.  and cupcakes.  My boyfriend has lots of fun stuff planned for the weekend and hasn’t told me what we are doing yet so I am pretty excited to see what he has up his sleeve – I love surprises!

Happy Friday!  Now I’m just hoping this work day goes by super fast.

Thanks Janny for letting me guest post for you!!  Hope you and your honey buns are living it up in the land of Port 🙂
