Carmageddon

You may or may not be familiar with the term “Carmageddon.”
It refers to this weekend’s closure of the 405 freeway in Los Angeles and let me tell you, people are in a straight-up frenzy.
Since I live on the westside of LA, I’ll be majorly effected by said Carmageddon and have been advised by many not to leave my apartment this entire weekend.

But, I say to the naysayers, Renegade Craft Fair is this weekend in downtown!
There is no way I’m missing that!  Freeway closure or not, I will get there.

So while most people will do the sane and rational thing of avoiding the roads at all possible,
I will be trekking it downtown (taking the surface streets!) for a craft fair.
Yes, Renegade is that good.

But, of course, as soon as I’ve got my fill of crafting,
I will stay away from the roads and spend my weekend on Pinterest!

Weekend with an Australian

Renegade Craft Fair

Last weekend, (I know, I’ve been a very absent blogger… I’ve been on holiday hiatus aka work was taking over my life…apologies, I love you) one of my friends from Australia stayed with me for a few days.  She’s currently on a trek across America so I tried my best to be her tour guide of Los Angeles (her first stop on said trek).  First off, her name is Jenna and she is the best thing ever.  She brought me Tim Tams and Vegemite.  She had never seen an Urban Outfitters or J. Crew.  She took a photo of the candy isle at Vons (“American lollies,” she calls them).  And she tested out frozen yogurt for the first time.  So the whole weekend, I got to do all of my favorite things with someone who was fascinated by the newness of those things.  Imagine seeing Forever 21 for the first time.  The clouds part and rays of sunshine reflect directly off that $4 sequin belted dress in the display window, creating a rainbow of sparkles for miles. That’s like the best ever.  She. Is. Great.

We tested out macarons at Paulette, visited Griffith Park Observatory, and hit up an AMAZING craft fair (Renegade Craft Fair).  Of course, we did all the touristy things as well, i.e. 3rd Street prom, Rodeo, Disney concert hall, Americana).  Best part: the weather was unexplainably beautiful for December.  Perhaps Jenna brought the Australian summer with her?  (ED note: aaaaand now it’s downpouring rain)
