Style Recipes: Indecisive Weather

Dress: Madewell (last worn here), Sweater: Topshop, Boots: Madewell

When my hair is desperate for a cut and the weather can’t decide if it wants be 75 degrees or 55 degrees, I put on my favorite polka dot dress and throw on an oversized sweater.  You can’t use your Jedi mind tricks on me, weather!  Speaking of Jedi mind tricks, I saw “Book of Mormon” this weekend and there was a cameo by Yoda.  I don’t consider myself a nerdy person but that really made my day.  JK, I’M REALLY NERDY.  Plus, the musical itself was so good!!

So back to the weather.  I don’t fully understand it.  25 years of living in Southern California and I still DON’T GET IT.  Because of my constant befuddlement, I over prepare by wearing things for both cold and hot weather simultaneously.  Chunky sweaters, short dresses, leather boots.  Take THAT, November.  The pale legs are staying out for as long as possible.

In case it gets cold outside

cold weather outfit

If and when it decides to get cold outside (and by cold, I mean below 70 degrees), I will be fully prepared with the following items: oversized sweaters, a bulky (yet chic) parka, stretchy jeans, thick scarves, comfortable boots, and a large carryall that will hold all the rest of my cold weather needs.

I own none of these items (except for boots), so I guess I will, in fact, not be prepared.  Good thing I’m doing this post because I would’ve never known I needed all these items.  Dear boyfriend, will you buy me a parka??

I just LOVE the cold weather!  It’s kind of rare in LA but when it eventually comes, ooooh I just love it so much.  I’m still waiting patiently for the temp to drop, but in the meantime, have a good day and wear something extra warm if it’s cold where you are!

Need Immediately: Red Pants

red pants outfit

I’m usually not a colorful person.  I stick to neutrals like you wouldn’t believe.  But all of sudden, I’m craving red pants.  What’s the deal here?  It might be because the color red has been popping up repeatedly all over New York Fashion Week.  Or maybe because it was just Valentine’s Day and heart motifs are aplenty.  Was it quite possibly the red velvet bundt cake I tested the other day that sent me into a world of chocolately red dye bliss???

I NEED RED PANTS!  I swear, red pairs well with every color on the planet: navy, olive green, camel, cream, orange, leopard (yes, leopard is a color), royal blue.  I could probably go through the entire color spectrum but instead, I want to show you an outfit that I wish I was currently wearing.

Of course, I would start with these Zara red cropped pants.  Then I would add a touch of silk with a J.Crew navy blouse (lusted after here in olive just days ago).  Red + navy = get used to it my friends because you will be seeing LOTS of it in the coming months!  Over the silk blouse, I would wear this slouchy Topshop sweater.  Extra geek chic points for the blouse collar peeking out of the sweater neckline.  And then I would add a chunky gold Madewell necklace for pizazz, bright red Topshop lipstick for even MORE pizazz, and a Madewell satchel because it’s probably the cutest thing ever.
