TORONTO / THE STYLE EATER

Welp, September kind of creeped up on us out of nowhere, right? I’ve been in Toronto for work and gosh darn it, what a beautiful city. So clean and friendly and stylish. I was there for the Toronto International Film Festival and aside from the super long hours, nonstop activity, and ruined feet from wearing too many heels, it was an exhilarating experience. You can see all of our hard work here, here, and here. So proud of my team!

Anyway, I’m back now and that means I can start planning a wedding. Did I tell you that we have a date? And a venue? Oh, sweet relief! Weddings are hard, y’all. So much respect for all you married people. Teach me your ways? I need a photographer, florist, DJ/band, caterer, alcohol, rentals, lighting, decor, a dress, coordinator/planner, and misc (my friend Jaymee said to always leave room for “misc”). Also, I don’t know what “my colors” are. Why do we live and die by the color scheme? I want no color scheme. Shoot I gotta start saying “our.” OUR COLOR SCHEME.

Also, Los Angeles: why ya gotta be 90 degrees the rest of this week?

More on all of these topics coming soon. Happy mid-September!

Need some coral asap

coral

I’m really over this dreary, overcast, depressing weather we’ve been having the last few weeks.  The sun almost never comes out and and when it does, it’s not until 3 in the afternoon.  What gives, Dallas Raines??? (that’s the name of our weatherman in these parts, don’t judge, he was born with that name…maybe…)

In order to offset this sucky weather, I’ve decided to add a little color into my life, this time in the form of coral.  I’m really loving the various shades of coral right now, from the brightest pinkish corals to the subtle orangy ones.  It’s such a fun, bright color that adds a bit of sunshine to the even gloomiest of days.

Hey Girl

I definitely don’t consider myself a girly girl.  I like army green jackets, loose-fitting tees, and boots – that’s my thing.  But every once in awhile, I crave super sweet and girly items, like polka dot swimsuits or pleated pink dresses.  Take today for example:  My nails are a subtle pale pink and I’m wearing a bow in my hair.  For no apparent reason.  It’s perfectly acceptable to switch it up every once in awhile, eh?  Here are several darling items I’m lusting after as of late:

  1. Nasty Gal Sweet Pleats Dress
  2. Kate Spade Crystal Kaleidoscope Necklace
  3. Foliage Bow Barrette
  4. Topshop Red Scallop Hem Short
  5. J. Crew Polka Dot Underwire Top and Grommet Short
  6. Scotch Naturals in Neat
  7. ASOS Cath Kidston Cotton Rucksack

Need Immediately: Red Pants

red pants outfit

I’m usually not a colorful person.  I stick to neutrals like you wouldn’t believe.  But all of sudden, I’m craving red pants.  What’s the deal here?  It might be because the color red has been popping up repeatedly all over New York Fashion Week.  Or maybe because it was just Valentine’s Day and heart motifs are aplenty.  Was it quite possibly the red velvet bundt cake I tested the other day that sent me into a world of chocolately red dye bliss???

I NEED RED PANTS!  I swear, red pairs well with every color on the planet: navy, olive green, camel, cream, orange, leopard (yes, leopard is a color), royal blue.  I could probably go through the entire color spectrum but instead, I want to show you an outfit that I wish I was currently wearing.

Of course, I would start with these Zara red cropped pants.  Then I would add a touch of silk with a J.Crew navy blouse (lusted after here in olive just days ago).  Red + navy = get used to it my friends because you will be seeing LOTS of it in the coming months!  Over the silk blouse, I would wear this slouchy Topshop sweater.  Extra geek chic points for the blouse collar peeking out of the sweater neckline.  And then I would add a chunky gold Madewell necklace for pizazz, bright red Topshop lipstick for even MORE pizazz, and a Madewell satchel because it’s probably the cutest thing ever.

The Sweater Dilemma of 2010

I don’t know what’s swirling around in this brisk and chilly air but it’s making me want to wear sweaters 24/7.  I’m not usually a big sweater-wearer to be perfectly honest with you.  I get claustrophobic and itchy.  If you’re saying to yourself “Claustrophobic??  WTF?” right now, I apologize because I do not have a sane explanation for my actions.  There’s just something about heavy clothing that has broken down my psyche.  Crazy, no?

But for some reason this fall/winter season, I’m breaking free of my nonsensical behaviorisms and wearing sweaters like they’re going out of style.  Though this sweater will reign as my number 1 favorite, I’ve chosen several others that I want added to my wardrobe immediately.  From cable knit to pom pom balls, I need them all.  So cozy chic!
