Dearest Readers (or Reader because I have a feeling only my mom reads this),
I need your help. I need your wise and worldly advice. I have the tendency to mismatch my belt color with my shoe color. I guess it’s more than just a tendency as it has become a daily offense. For example:
I know I’ve showed you this picture before but it was the only photographic evidence I had of my potential crime. My belt is a chocolate brown leather and my oxfords are a much lighter cognac. Is this level of mismatching a faux pas? Or am I in the clear? I just need to know!
I’ve struggled with this conundrum for years now and I figured it was time to pose the question to the interwebs for enlightenment. Am I allowed to wear different shades of brown in my belt and shoe?
What about light nudes and dark nudes? Two shades of black? You’re probably thinking to yourself that I’m slightly nuts, but does this problem ever cross your mind? I can honestly say that I do not have a single belt that matches a single pair of shoes (and vice versa).
What say you? Am I in the clear or do I need to hide in my closet forever…

JANELLE you’re so freaking adorable!
unfortunately, this comment is useless to your posed question as I am not of any caliber to remark upon fashion whatsoever . but you are hilarious. that is all. miss you!
I don’t think it matters. But I, like you, am very troubled in the mismatch department. When I wear jeans I always wear the same buttery brown leather belt that I have had for years to hold my pants up, most of the time the belt is covered by my shirt, blouse, or tunic-but still, mostly it is due to the fact that I don’t have the time or money to find the perfect colored belt for every par of shoes-hell, or even the perfect black belt. I even wear it with my dark blue skinnies, sheer purple blouse, and black heels. It may be wrong, but my bank account doesn’t want to be right.
I never match my shoes to my belt, or my shoes to my purse, so obviously my first advice would be DON’T THINK ABOUT MATCHING! Accessories are there to complement or enhance an outfit! You already have a few brown touches in the bag, and the belt isn’t overwhelming so I think it’s pretty OK!
As for different shades, I’ve always said as long as they’re in the same color palette, have fun you know? Chloé Fall 2010, anyone?
I think the different shades of brown are okay, but for some reason I don’t like different shades of black together because black is black? idk…
and I read!
I think you look great! Not too matchy, but still color-coordinated(ish).
Such a cute outfit!
I don’t really think it matters as long as they are not totally clashing! I like it because it isn’t matchy, matchy, but it still goes together!
I like mismatchiness hehehee. That is cool. Too matchy matchy is not that great :/
Thanks everyone for your great advice!! (and boosting my self-esteem) 🙂
I really (specifically) don’t like mismatching belt and shoes. Peut être the bag, but don’t mess with shoes…
