FRIDAY LOVE LIST

Three-day weekends are probably the best invention ever.  A whole extra day of hanging out?!  Sign me up, please.  This weekend is full of fun activities, starting tonight with First Fridays in Venice.  FF is an artwalk on Abbot Kinney (in Venice) and literally hundreds of food trucks line the streets.  It’s one of my favorite things to do!  As for what I’m loving this week?  Here are a few things:

  • Yes I’ve already expressed my love for Emersonmade here, but I can’t get over how amazing her fall collection is.  And even though I’ll never need a coat down in these parts, I’m particularly loving this camel coat (pictured above).
  • You guys, I went and bought myself a nice camera.  YAY!  Now I’m in the market for a camera bag and this one from ONA is EXACTLY what I’m looking for!
  • The minute I saw this recipe for grilled flatbread with blistered tomatoes, sauteed kale, and cheese, I died of happiness.  Then I came back to life and was very hungry.
  • I wish I could bake/eat these Bakerella chocolate chunk muffins EVERY SINGLE DAY of my life.  I would, you know.  I really would.
  • This weekend, I’m going to a wedding!  My friend from work is getting married and I’m real excited to celebrate her with all of my coworkers.

What are your plans for the 3 days?  Happy weekend!!

Three Things [for fall]

three things for fall

Seeing as it’s September (WHAT!), I thought I should probably shift gears into fall mode.  There are so many great trends I can’t wait to try this fall season, and these three are particularly drawing my attention:

  1. That perfectly undone hair that Rumi seems to pull of SO well.  A bit ombre’d, a lot of Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray.
  2. Lots of layers, especially in the form of silk shirts and sweaters.  Double points if polka dots are involved in the equation.
  3. Jewel tones, jewel tones, and more jewel tones.  Bee of Atlantic-Pacific always does it right when it comes to dressing like a lady.  But she takes it to the next level with these fuchsia capris.  So elegant!

Emersonmade fall collection

I’m a huge, huge fan of Emersonmade.  I mean, what’s not to love?  First of all, Emerson is probably the cutest ever, and second, she makes damn good clothes.  Some of her new fall collection is up on the site and I’m in love with the Gunmetal Skinny jeans.  Perfectly cropped at the ankle, I tell you.

In fact, I would love to wear the whole outfit that Emerson is wearing up there, with these few additions:

  1. A bold red lip in the form of Poppy King for J.Crew lipstick.
  2. Some chunky baubles like this Coiled Teardrop Necklace from Anthropologie.
  3. An easy carry-all that I can throw all my stuff into, like this Fold Over Bag from Toast.
  4. I’d swap out the red patent pumps (but, of course, put them on again later) for some leopard loafers, like these Barneys Co-Op flats.

Doing a little math

a fashion equation

As summer comes to a close, I like to start incorporating some fall pieces into the mix.  Ease my way into it, if you will.  I’m totally in love with that Steven Alan sweater up there but I can’t wear it with pants right now.  Oh heck no.  Still too warm.  But cut-off red shorts?  Yeah, I can deal with that.

You’re probably wondering what that pretty little equation up there equals to.  Well, I wasn’t very good at math in school so it remains a mystery to me as well!

A.R Trapp sunglasses (via J. Crew) + Steve Alan sweater + “Absolutely Shore” Essie Polish + J Brand cut-off shorts (via Net-a-Porter) + Steven by Steve Madden Pembrook books (via Piperlime)

okay, now I’m ready for fall

steven alan fall 2011

Steven Alan is like my dream man (no offense, Kyle).  He always knows what I want!  In fact, he knows what I want before I even know.  That’s a keeper in my book.  My only qualm with Mr. Alan is that he’s kind of an expensive date.  But if he showed up to a date with this bracelet as gift, maybe I’d be more inclined to spend money on him (aka spend money on myself since I took this metaphor a little too far).

Anyway the whole point of this post is that I’m really into the Steven Alan fall 2011 lookbook.  It’s giving off a 90s vibe (which I love since I probably wore versions of all those outfits in the 3rd grade), yet at the same time, it seems totally polished and chic.  To take it one step further, it’s very Alexa Chung-y.  AKA all of my favorite things.
