Just as I was thinking to myself “What in the H am I going to wear now that it’s getting warmer??” (since, of course, spring comes in mid-January over in these parts), Steven Alan comes out with the sweetest, most easy breezy collection I could hope for.  Everything looks so comfy, chic, and perfectly boyish – exactly what I need this time of year. Goodbye peacoat (though I only wore you once this winter…ahem…in San Francisco) and hello adorable spring wardrobe.

Gift Guide for Boyfriend

Finding gifts for men is the hardest undertaking ever.  It doesn’t matter if the gift is for your boyfriend, your lover, (your lover on the side?), your friend, your brother, your pops – MEN ARE DIFFICULT.  So instead of compiling a list of gift ideas for them, I asked my own boyfriend to create a gift guide for me.  What a sweets!

Kyle (my bf) was quite thrilled to make this list, mostly because he was trying to drop me hints of what he wants, but also because he’s very well-versed in man products.  He keeps up-to-date on the blogs, always seems to find neat online shops, and has a better wardrobe than me (sadly).  So here is a list of gift ideas for your man friend, curated by my man friend:

  1. Gitman Brothers Vintage Brush Cotton BD Shirt, Roden Gray, $178
  2. Oliver Spencer Fine Stripe Scarf, Rooney, $120
  3. Wings + Horns Ventile Cotton Down Vest, Roden Gray, $330
  4. Handmade Necktie, Is/Was Projects, $100

Holiday Party Dresses

During the holiday season (timeout:  I can’t believe it’s the holiday season), one of my favorite things to do is search for the perfect party dress.  That’s not to say that I go to a ton of holiday parties, but the 1 or 2 that I do attend, it’s always fun to glam up in a holiday frock.

From classic silhouettes to sparkly metallics, here are some of my favorite looks that I hope to sport this season (read: I’ll be sitting on my couch all winter but these purty dresses sure are nice to look at).

Classy, timeless, elegant:

Lacy, delicate,  feminine:

Sparkly, bold,  fun:

Flirty, glamorous, alluring:

P.S. Take a looksie at the trendy look I was going for last holiday season.  Har har.

Madewell Understands Me

November 20, 2010

Sure, this my 79th post about Madewell but bear with me because I’ve finally realized something.  Madewell GETS me.  It understands me.  Season after season, it embodies everything I want in a wardrobe.  Nay, a lifestyle!!  Our relationship is a well-balanced give-and-take.  They give me the tools I need to express my style and in turn, I take it willingly (via my credit card).

For examps, let’s take a look at Madewell’s Holiday Gift Guide.  I almost cried when I saw it:

This chic tomboy is me in a nutshell.  I live in those plaids and tees.  The rolled denim!  The booties.  Those sweaters!  And the Penfield parka.  I swear, Madewell, how do you know me so well? Madewell Gift Guide Chic Tomboy

But wait…there are days when I want to be a vintage sophisticate instead.  But you knew that already, didn’t you Madewell?

And sometimes I crave sequins and velvet when I go out on the town.  Perhaps I’m a glam night owl as well? Madewell Gift Guide Glam Night Owl

Oh but scratch all of that.  I love polka dots and ladylike charm.  Frills are brillz!  Ah oui, you’re right Madewell, I DO want to be a true romantic…

Wait, I’m a free spirit now, M-Well?  I’m so not a free spirit.  But what’s that you say?  You’re saying that I have the potential to be one?  Oh, maybe you’re onto something here…I do kind of love those shoulder sequins and lord knows I already ordered those wedge booties. See what I mean?  Madewell’s the yin to my yang.
