French macarons

I finally got a new domain and I’m so happy with the result.  Thank you to Michael Cybulski for doing EVERYTHING for me!

Even though I’m in a new home, I will still blab and ramble about anything fashion and food-related.  So if you love those two subjects, come visit me!  Thanks for being a reader!

On a completely unrelated note, I am addicted to We Heart It (I may have mentioned that before).  Basically it’s like flickr in that anyone can upload images.  In the We Heart It search bar, I search for images like cupcakes, French macarons (as in the image above – GLORIOUS), latte froth art, Stockholm street style, Paris, fashion week, flowers, etc.  Basically I can scroll through the various images for hours at a time and never get bored.  Oh my goodness, I love.

Need Right Now: Creativi-Tea

March 11, 2010

If you didn’t know this already: I’m addicted to tea.  Like if tea were a drug, you would need to send me to rehab.  That’s the level of addiction I’m trying to convey.  And even if you sent me to rehab, I would sneak some in my room and have a cup before bed.  It makes me shutter to think about that withdrawal process.

Anyways, when I spotted these tea mugs on weheartit (my new fave photo site, FYI), I knew I had to find them asap.  Luckily, I found them on Amazon!  I know it’s only March but these mugs are my favorite discoveries of the entire year.

Mixed Greens w/ Strawberry Vinaigrette

Filed Under : EAT - RECIPES

This salad is one of my all-time favorites and I’ve literally been making it NONSTOP.  First of all, it is so simple to make and second, it is beyond delicious!

Not only that but it looks really elegant as well, making it a perfect addition to a dinner party, tea party, baby/bridal shower, etc.  And I’m sorry but who doesn’t love strawberries in a salad?  They add an instant pop of color (and, not to mention, a sweet and delish taste).

I adapted this recipe from Rachael Ray and to make the Strawberry Vinaigrette, simply place 2 teaspoons of strawberry jam in a bowl.  Whisk in 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil.  Season with salt and pepper.  Make sure you whisk constantly until the jam dissolves and the vinaigrette has a creamy, smooth consistency.

To make the salad, place an entire bag of mixed greens in a bowl.  Add a handful of sliced, toasted almonds and 1 pint of sliced (lengthwise) strawberries.  Mix in the vinaigrette and toss to coat.

This recipe serves 4 to 5 people and I usually double it for larger parties (i.e. my tea party!).  Now that strawberry season is upon us (almost, kinda? It’s always strawberry season in these parts), this salad will a great feature for all your springtime fêtes!

Plums Café

I love a good brunch. Give me 75 degree weather on a Sunday and a solid brunch menu and I’m satisfied. …which is probably why I love Plums Café in Costa Mesa so much.

Plums Café is a rare gem. Of course, I can’t take credit for discovering this gem! My good friend, Ladi, took me here awhile ago and ever since then, I crave it every time I’m in Orange County. So thank you Lads for introducing Plums to me!

The brunch menu at Plums Café is an eclectic twist on the classics: Raspberry pancakes, Santa Fe Eggs Benedict, Coconut French Toast, Shirred Eggs. The ingredients are fresh, flavorful, and inspired by the Northwest. Oregon Trail (2 buttermilk pancakes, 2 eggs, apple maple sausage) anyone??

Last weekend, I had brunch at Plums Café and it was as satisfying as ever! I had the Northwest Berry Waffle and the most refreshing ginger peach iced tea. Kyle had a bloody mary (of course) and the Spinach and Feta Cheese Omelet.

As for my waffle, I had never seen berries so fresh in the middle of February. Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries covered every inch of it – so sweet and succulent too! Don’t even get me started on the whipped cream. This ain’t no Cool Whip, let me tell you. I’m talkin’ heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and a touch of vanilla extract whipped to absolute perfection.

As for Kyle’s omelet, it was a savory mixture of sweet baby tomatoes, salty kalamata olives, spinach, and a hefty layer of feta cheese. Next to the omelet? Rosemary potatoes. Yes, I had quite a few bites. So flavorful and delicious!

And just to answer your question: Yes, I did eat every bite. I don’t mess around when it comes to waffles.

Bad Luck Is Not So Bad

Before we really start discussing New York Fashion Week, I want to share a few food-related adventures. I had planned on going to the La Street Food Fest on Saturday but when we (Kyle and I) arrived, there were easily 1,000+ people waiting in line, snaking around LA Center Studios for blocks and blocks. When we asked a food fest worker how long the wait would be, he told us they were at capacity and could not let anyone in until people started leaving. Translation: Sucks for you. Did I mention it was 81 degrees in Los Angeles? I was beyond peeved. But I could only blame myself, I should’ve gotten there earlier!

So Kyle and I (naturally) walked over to the 500 Days Of Summer “bench” at the corner of 4th Street and Olive a few blocks down. Oh you know, the bench where Tom draws the Los Angeles skyline on Summer’s arm. Sigh. But of course as we sat on the bench (surrounded by bums no less, where are they in the movie?), we saw no such skyline. Instead, a lovely view of a fading brick building. The power of the Hollywood film! Peeved once more.

By this time, Kyle and I were starved so when he spotted a group of people chowing down on tacos at the next bench over, he asked them where they found such a delicious-looking meal. “Grand Central Market” they said and pointed across the street. So we went…and boy, I’m glad we did.

{a bustling market with booth after booth of delicious authentic food}

{Fruit and vegetable stands as well}

{Drinking watermelon juice – the most refreshing drink!}

{There was a line snaking around the corner for Ana Maria’s Mexican Food so we had to eat there}

{Torta de pollo}

{I feel like Anthony Bourdain}

{Sarita!!}

{Beautiful colors all throughout the market}

And that’s Grand Central Market – right in the heart of downtown LA. I guess bad luck isn’t always so bad.
