ANN-MARIE'S SHOWER / THE STYLE EATER

Two weekends ago, I co-hosted a bridal shower for my very good pal, Ann-Marie, with my fellow bridesmaids and it was quite the golden affair. I love celebrating my best friends and this one was especially fun to throw together. I focused on the food and drinks, while the other gals did the awesome decor and paper goods (paper design by Jayadores Design Co!).

Menu-wise, I kept it pretty simple and actually pulled a few of the recipes from Ann-Marie’s pinterest page! Insider tip: if you’re planning a party for someone, always look at THEIR pinterest page for inspo. All the things they love in one place, it’s a win-win sitch, I promise. For apps, we did a HUGE veggie platter with 3 different hummus dips, crispy chickpeas, caprese skewers, and mixed olives. For mains, we made a simple herbed quinoa, a Greek tomato and cucumber salad, mini caprese paninis with pesto, a spinach salad with strawberries, and got 2 marketplace salads from Lemonade (AM’s favorite!). For drinks, we made an old-fashioned lemonade and bought cucumber mint and blood orange lemonades from Lemonade. That’s a whole lot of lemonade talk for one sentence. Then I made 3 infused vodkas to spike the lemonades a bit: a jalapeno vodka, rosemary vodka, and berry vodka. They turned out pretty delicious, especially the jalapeno one. By the way, infusing vodka is like the easiest thing ever, so do it.

I didn’t take too many pictures and missed the majority of the decor and food (and attendees), but almost all of my good friends were in one place at the same time, which never happens, and sometimes you just gotta take advantage of that. So cheers to you, Ann-Marie! Hope you loved it!

EAT DRINK AMERICANO / THE STYLE EATER

ONE / i FINALLY took kyle out for his birthday dinner (i say “finally” because his birthday is september 10th and you’d think i could take him out sooner because we live together but sometimes i fail as a girlfriend, don’t we all?). so we went to picca in LA and trust me when i say this: our minds were BLOWN. we’ve been to picca’s sister restaurant in dtla before (called mo chica), but i’m pretty sure japanese-inspired peruvian food is my new jam. did you watch New Girl last night? the whole episode was about picca and we got a hearty chuckle out of it. also, avocado cocktails. i mean, whattttt????

TWO / i go on a lot of business lunches and i love when people suggest fun places to meet, like hotel bel air. it’s tucked in the hills above sunset blvd and for 2 hours of my day (lunches aren’t something to mess around with), i feel like i’m on vacation. don’t even get me started on the lush greenery and beautiful grounds. it’s fancy as F so i usually feel a little out of place, but like i said in my last post, we all deserve a little fanciness once in awhile.

THREE & FOUR / i skipped work on monday to attend a super fun photography workshop with my girls, Jaymee and Ann-Marie. you can see more from our day on ann-marie’s blog, but we always have so much fun together. after the class, we had lunch at eat drink americano in the arts district and that chalkboard wall? whoever did that, you’re hired.

WEEKENDS ARE FOR PUP-SHAPED TANS

Weekends are great and all, but 3-day weekends are equivalent to finding $50 in your winter coat, snagging a parking spot in LA, winning the lotto, long walks on the beach, rainbows, pots of gold, ALL THE GOOD THINGS.

I meannnnn….they’re the best, right? A lot of people asked me what I was doing for the long holiday weekend and I’ll be honest with you, I hung out at my parents’ house with my dog.

Sometimes what you really need is a paw in your face to really put things into perspective and my goodness, I’m feeling 100x better already (also my parents’ central AC really did the trick too). My pup and I swam together (as seen in this insta), laid out together, ate Goldfish crackers together, told each other wild stories about life, so on and so forth. He loves when I’m back home because I give him extra scratches and let him up on the lounge chairs when he’s not allowed to be (sorry mom). He also totally messed up my tan lines, but that’s alright because he’s so ridiculously precious. Three cheers for long weekends, adorable pups, and pool days!

YOU HAVE AS MANY HOURS IN THE DAY AS BEYONCE

BUSY GAL

Y’ALL. I pretty much gave up on blogging until I saw this quote floating around Pinterest. IT’S SO TRUE. Beyonce is the hardest working woman on the planet and if we’re working with the same amount of time in this life, then by golly I better get my ass in gear. Blogging, book writing, working out (this one is TBD) – it’s all happening now. So here I am, with my blogger hat on, my work blackberry tucked in my purse, Kyle upstairs on his computer, TV turned off, and we’re blogging, because BEYONCE WOULD DO IT AND SO CAN I.

The truth is, life has been slapping this gal across the face lately and I am tired as BALLS. <–Normally I would edit that out and change it to something a little more PC like “tired as heck” but I ain’t backspacing today, friends. I’m also going to embrace this exhaustion, slap it right back, and do something fruitful with my down time. Mrs. Carter has convinced me that I CAN do all the things in one day, oh yes I can. She also taught me who run the world (the answer is “girls,” if you were wondering). We’re moving forward, onward, and upward because…BEYONCE!

And for as crazy as life has been lately, it’s also been the most exciting and rewarding. So many great things are happening and I’m loving every second of it (tired or not!).

And until next time, I leave you with my favorite time of day: when I get home from work and sit in silence for 5 whole minutes, blocking out all the noise from the day and soaking in the quiet of my home. In those few moments, the sun starts fading, cool air seeps through the open windows, and my fridge purrs softly. I feel nothing but peace. After those 5 minutes, I’m up and on to the next (insert ANY AND ALL Beyonce gif’s here).
