Shop my Closet on Copious / the style eater

You guys.  I’m doing a little spring cleaning and selling a few thangs from my closet on Copious.  I’m an eBayer at heart but love the look and feel of this new-to-me selling platform (plus The Man Repeller and Oh Joy use Copious and I pretty much trust them with my life).  I’ve listed a few pair of jeans (ranging from Acne to J Brand), some dresses (Topshop, ASOS, etc), a couple sweaters, a sweet pair of Soludos, and an adorable floppy fedora that matches my hair color exactly so would probably look way better on you.

I’ll be reloading the shop often so come back anytime.  Also, if you click the “SHOP” button in the navigation bar at the top of my site, it will go directly to my Copious listings.

On crown braids and starting anew

crown braid / the style eater

Please forgive me for posting a picture of myself with my dang eyes closed.  No one blinks in blogland so this kind of pic is pretty unheard of.  But you know what?  My boobs look nice and my hair’s lookin fly so my eyes can be closed if they want to.  And yes I just gave myself 2 compliments.  We’re turning a new leaf this year.

Speaking of this year, I celebrate the New Year on the day after Oscars.  Award season is the busiest time for me because of work, so when it’s all over, I can finally take a deep breath, reflect on the past year, and start anew.  That means I need to stop eating handfuls of M&Ms daily and start being a little more healthy.  Maybe workout a bit?  Find a goal and achieve it?  Most people have these kind of resolutions on January 1st.  Not this gal.  It’s all about February 27th.

Last year’s resolutions? No offense to me circa 2012 but they sucked.  I didn’t keep a single one.  The only productive thing I did last year was learn how to crown braid.  Also, I lied.  I learned this like 2 weeks ago but I still consider that last year since it was B.O. (before Oscars).  I am pretty proud of myself for this accomplishment.  Mainly because it was my only accomplishment.  We can’t all be winners.  Oh but the braid goes all the way around my head!  So fancy!  Here is the tutorial I used in case you want to test yo’ braid skillz.

Now that I’m taking a deep breathe and starting fresh with new goals and resolutions (in late February), I just have an inkling that this is going to be a great year.  I’m taking about you, 2013.  I think you’re going to be pretty darn good.

Sometimes we walk to dinner

walking to dinner / the style eater

On Fridays, we go out to eat.  It’s become somewhat of a tradition based purely on laziness, dwindling groceries at the end of the week, and long work days.  Sometimes we go big and make reservations at a fun restaurant across town.  But let’s be real…usually we walk across the street, have Oaxacan mole at a questionable hole-in-the-wall (aka the best), and then hop over to the diner a few blocks down to eat pie and drink milkshakes.  Oooooh yeah, we’re crazy kids.

As much as I love crowded restaurants and hip meals and fancy cocktails, sometimes all I need is a simple evening of pie and milkshakes.  Oh and some tamales.

FRIDAY LOVE LIST

FRIDAY LOVE LIST / THE STYLE EATER

I’ve been kinda stressed this week and I think part of the reason is because of Scotchmallows, all thanks to my parents who sent me a giant bag full of them for Valentine’s Day.  The amount I’ve eaten would frighten an average person I think.  I literally cannot control myself.  Are they laced with crack?  I’ve eaten 3 since I started writing this post.  Ouy vey.  Here are a few other things I’m loving this week:

  • A fully booked trip to NYC, Connecticut, and Montreal is getting me real excited for spring!
  • I’m dying to make homemade kimchi and this seems like a perfect first-timer’s recipe.
  • I’ve been loving this hairstyle lately.  A few spritzes of surf spray and some bobby pins are all you need.
  • Speaking of hair, I kind of want to cut my hair this short.  Yay or nay??  Crazy talk?
  • Madewell, please stop with all the good boots.  My bank account is suffering for it.
  • I’m in the market for a new jacket and I can’t decide if I should go this route or this route.  Both, you say?  You got it, thanks for the sound advice.
  • Two great articles: one on productivity and another from Leandra on blogging.

Happy weekending!  I’ll be working mostly but it ain’t no thangggg.  Oh! And the photo above is from when we drove to this hike.  LA, you slay me sometimes.

ESSENTIALS: INTUITIVE LIP BALM

essentials: dior lip glow / the style eater

I used to wear strawberry chapstick exclusively for the better part of my 25 years (errr…I think I’m 26 now actually?).  It has this perfect just-bitten hue that I couldn’t find anywhere else.  That mixed with it’s faux strawberry flavahh couldn’t be beat IMO.

…until I learned about intuitive lip balm.  Do you know of this magical, mythical product?  I truly feel like it’s one of the most underrated makeup products out there.  Basically, the balm reacts with the chemistry of your lips to enhance it’s natural color.  Super subtle, yet it somehow creates this perfect hue that you never knew you needed before.  Also, it reacts to everyone differently.  So for me, it’s a super light pink.  For someone else, it could be richer.  It’s like it knows exactly what color your lips ought to be.  Magic, I tell you.

My favorite intuitive lip balm is Dior Addict Lip Glow.  It’s a little on the pricey side but honestly and truthfully, I think it’s so worth the bucks.  It’s really moisturizing and it lasts on your lips for a VERY long time.  We’re talking HOURS.  It’s perfect for daytime when you need a little hint of color but still want to look like yourself.

Find it here or here.

*PS…my favorite intuitive lip gloss is Smashbox’s O-Gloss.  Oh it’s the most perfect pink if you’re more of a gloss person than a balm person!
