JUST A COUPLE OF GALS WATCHING THE SUNSET

What’s the point of a beautiful sunset on the Manhattan Beach pier without a couple of dslrs and a few iphones? No point, I tell you. That’s what happens when Jaymee, Ann-Marie, and I get together. All bets are off. Cameras are out. Documenting begins. Gramming happens. But that’s what I love about these girls. I’ve known them FOREVER and they’re MA PEEPS. But beyond that, we’re always on the same page: cameras out at all times. We GET each other. We pose for each other. WE LOVE EACH OTHER.

^^Plus, a pre-sunset dinner at Lemonade will always hit the spot. Lemonade, why do you have to be so good all the time. Gimme those kimchi noodles every single day of my life.

FIRST WEEKEND OF SUMMER GOODNESS

Summer, you arrived 3 days ago and you’re not messing around. You’re extra warm and cloudless and delicious. Two thumbs up. Needless to say, this weekend was WAY TOO SHORT. Oh and hiiii since I didn’t blog last week. But back to this weekend. We spent the majority of Saturday at the beach, slathered in sunscreen and without a care in the world. There were also a few acai bowls involved. One of us got sunburned (not I) and the other went from pale to dark pale.

Then, one of my best friends, Sarah, came and stayed with us for the night (she lives in North Carolina now) and we had such a fun time together, reminiscing about high school (i.e. mapping out who we went to formals with) and discussing the pros and cons of spin classes. Always a good time with that gal, I swear.

Sunday was spent at Dwell on Design (a post coming soon) all thanks to Kyle winning tickets to it ON THE RADIO. I guess people still win things on the radio? It really happens, guys! We walked around that design mecca until our feet couldn’t move and even spotted Bryan Cranston (WALTER WHITE!) in the crowd. I didn’t realize Mr. White was a fan of green design. Other Sunday activities included: a visit to Parachute Market and a 2 hour nap sesh.

You were real good to us, first weekend of summer. REAL GOOD.

Sometimes all you need is the Friday afternoon sunshine, one of your best friends, and a couple of ice creams to really end the week on a high note. Work has been pretty crazy lately so it’s nice to get outdoors and just enjoy a dang chocolate cone with lots of laughs and giggles and intermittent shouts of “YAY YOU LIVE HERE NOW!!” (she moved here from Hawaii).

This summer is going to be a good one, I can feel it!

*Wearing this palm tree shirt (from this post) and these ankle boots (also seen here and here). Eating blackberry sorbet in a chocolate cone from sweet rose creamery and if i do say so myself, it was a mighty fine choice.

DOWNTOWN + NORTHERN GRADE

April 8, 2013

The Arts District in downtown is one of my favorite areas of Los Angeles. Couple that with beautiful weather and a good hair day and you got yourself a perfect Saturday, my friends. We initially went to check out NorthernGrade, a menswear/accessories/collectibles pop-up (aka Kyle’s version of heaven on earth), but then decided we needed to visit all of our favorite places in the area as well, including Poketo (I can’t leave this store without buying at least one thing, I JUST CAN’T), Apolis, Wurstkuche, and The Pie Hole.

Also, a new home decor store moved into the Arts Distrist and I almost dropped straight dead on the floor when I walked into it. It’s called Hammer & Spear and if you love a 70s vibe and/or vintage and/or breathing, you will drop straight dead on the floor when you walk into it. The hours are a bit funky so make sure to check them before going.

Hope your weekend was lovely!

The Hollywood Reservoir

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for a few years now (and in Southern California my whole life) and I’m still discovering its hidden gems and beauties.  Take the Hollywood Reservoir for example.  I only learned about it a few months ago while watching the film “Seven Psychopaths” (which I don’t recommend).  There is one scene at the beginning of the film right on that very bridge in the first photo, and even though someone is getting murdered in the scene, Kyle and I looked at each other and thought: WHAT IS THIS HEAVEN ON EARTH??  Minus the murdering, of course.  Oh but the beautiful lake and lush greenery!  And then I immediately felt like an ass for never having been to this gem literally in the middle of my own city.  Blasphemous.

So we went and explored.  It was so peaceful and as a bonus, we saw deer in their natural habitat.  There is a paved path around the reservoir that’s about 4 miles long and we just walked as far as we could (to a locked gate) and then back around.  A large team training for the marathon was running along the path as well, giving us dirty looks as they passed us, probably thinking that we too were training for the marathon and must be real lazy with all those walk breaks we were taking.  Sorry marathoners, we were not training.  We just really wanted to take pictures of deer.

Here’s more info on the Hollywood Reservoir if you so happen upon LA, are stuck in traffic on the 101, and in dire need of fresh air and nature.
