A day at the Getty

On Sunday, I visited the Getty Museum, nestled in the beautiful, green hills of Los Angeles, with my main squeeze.  Seeing as it’s only a 10 minute drive from my apartment, it’s pretty mindboggling to me that I hadn’t been there in 10 years.  Boy is it magical!

The grounds and surrounding area are breathtaking, the exhibits are wonderful – I could not have enjoyed myself more.  We specifically went to see the Herb Ritts photography exhibit, as I had mentioned on my summer list of things to do, and it was absolutely amazing.

I can’t wait to go back again soon!

LA was beautiful this weekend so we tried to spend as much time as possible in the sunshine.  Here are 2 things we did:

Had my favorite tacos at Frida Tacos in the Brentwood Country Mart…

Walked to the farmers’ market for some blood oranges and a watermelon agua fresca…

Hope you had a lovely weekend as well!  Tomorrow, I can’t wait to share about my experience at the Getty Museum from this weekend.  Stay tuned…

Things i want to do this summer

Filed Under : AROUND LA - MY LIFE

Seeing as the days are getting longer and warmer, I couldn’t help but make a list of all the activities I want to do this summer.  Although the list is definitely not complete, here are a few things to get me started:

  • Take the new metro expo line from Culver City to downtown.  Practical public transit in LA??  Who would’ve thought?
  • Visit the Herb Ritt’s exhibit at the Getty Museum.
  • Get a cabana at the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica and lay out by the pool all day.
  • Take a photography class (I’m actually taking one in June!)
  • Tour the LA river by bike, using this Sunset magazine map.
  • Experience Fried Chicken Friday at Broome Street General Store in Silver Lake.
  • Find the perfect beach spot between Malibu and Venice.

Hopefully there will be more to come as we get closer to summahhh.  What’s on your to-do list for this summer?

Rose Bowling

rose bowl flea market

On Sunday, we did a little Rose Bowl flea action.  We’re not the best flea market pickers and we kind of wander around aimlessly, but hey!  I FINALLY found a perfect globe on the cheap so I’m one happy camper.  Other than that, we just thumbed through lots of trinkets, tried to barter down an $800 rug (no dice), enjoyed the gorgeous day, and eyed other people’s loot enviously.

Also, I didn’t take that many photos but here’s what I should have snapped:
+the hundreds of beautiful kilim rugs that I would have DIED to get my hands on had they not been so expensive
+Natalie Portman with her new baby and husband
+custom floor-length mirrors that I wanted so badly
+the sold sign on a vintage turquoise electric fan that I almost tried to steal
+all the potted succulents for sale

[Around LA] wurstküche

wurstkuche

Wurstküche is somewhat of an LA favorite.  It’s located in the super neat Arts District of downtown (another one recently opened in Venice) and almost always has a line out the door.  Their premise is simple: they serve really delicious German-style sausages (ranging from veggie to chicken to buffalo) and you pick 2 toppings (my favorites are the carmelized onions and sauerkraut).  That’s all you need, I promise.  Oh, aside from the Belgian fries, of course.  You NEED those.  No question.  In fact, order the large size.

Also, their beer menu is quite extensive.  As it should be.  What’s a sausage without a beer?  PS, if you’re vegetarian, they have great veggie dog options as well (i’m a half vegetarian, yes that exists…no red meat or pork for me so I order the chicken or turkey varieties).

By the way, it’s across the street from the ever-so adorable (I mean, LOOK AT THAT FONT!) The Pie Hole, so if you’re not too full from eating an entire order of french fries, be sure to grab a slice of pie here:
