Dear gentle The Style Eater reader,

The lovely Janelle has somehow lost any sense of self (blog) preservation and has asked me to do a guest post on her gorg endeavor.

So what can I, a girl who spends most of her evenings trying to find viable CatPaint options have to offer you that won’t make you want to chase after Janelle with (electronic and metaphorical) pitchforks and torches?

Well, in the spirit of a new, strange girl coming around + the lack of first-days-of-schools for me for, well, ever, I’m going to give you a whirlwind answer to the timeless question of “Oh em gee, how was your summer?!” in Instagrammed form:

  1. La Scala chopped salad + Maroon 5 at the Hollywood Bowl = all my favorite things in one place
  2. Comic-Con, where I’m sure my future boyfriend was clad in a Pikachu costume somewhere in the masses
  3. My nephew’s farm-themed first birthday party, which was easily more extravagant than anything I will ever have thrown in my honor. Also featured: authentic props
  4. S’mores. In. A. Cup. Hey.
  5. My Starbucks gold card, since this summer was ALL TRENTAS, ALL THE TIME
  6. And finally, my good imaginary friend Aziz topped this delightful summer off with the Food & Fashion project on his tumblr. Never have I ever heard anyone wax poetic about creamed corned polenta the way I always want to.

And with that, I bid you adieu!

Never change and KIT! (Waaaait, I think I just mixed my school metaphors…)

Packing my suitcase

packing list for portland, oregon

Tomorrow, I leave on vacation for Portland, Oregon.  I couldn’t be more excited to explore the city, eat lots of yummy food, and shop around the unique bookstores and boutiques.  Here are a few things that I’d LOVE to add to my suitcase right now:

Buuuuuuuut, it’s actually going to be around 80 degrees everyday with 0% chance of rain (of course, the ONE time I could actually get use out of my Hunters!) so I will be packing none of the above.  Oh well!  Fall weather or not, I still CAN’T WAIT to be there!!  Who knows, maybe I will finally get a tan?

Friday Love List

friday love list

I’m head over heels (no pun intended) in love with these new sweet little babies.  Aren’t they just precious?  I picked them up at Madewell over Labor Day weekend during their 30% off all boots sale and I swear, I will never take them off.  So that’s number 1 on my love list this week, these Madewell boots.  Here’s what else I’m loving:

  • About a month ago, I made the switch from Bare Escentuals face makeup to Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer.  This week, I finally realized that it was the best decision I’ve ever made.  It’s so wonderful.
  • Kyle and I leave for our Portland vacation at the end of next week.  My Hunters, my new sweet little babes, and I couldn’t be more excited.
  • I don’t know about you but I watch a LOT of TV.  I probably watch almost every show.  So the fact that fall TV shows are starting up again makes me one happy camper.
  • Geri Hirsch made this video on layering and it’s all kinds of AMAZING.
  • The fact that Kyle sends me things like this at work.  Sigh.
Happy weekend!

Channeling for Fall

I would consider my overall style to have multiple personalities disorder.  For example, I plan to wear an outfit exactly like this the entire fall season – colorful jeans, faux Isabel Marant booties, and a crewneck sweater worn haphazardly over a denim shirt:

But then again, I’m really digging this 70s vibe of high-waisted flares, a loose silk shirt, and a wide-brimmed floppy hat: nyfw street style

Two totally different looks but I have an inkling I’ll be sporting both this season.  I’m telling you, multiple personalities.  They’re equally delicious, so how can I choose just one?

J. crew spring 2012

…because everything they do is so colorful and fun.  Structured and well-fitted.  Bright and alive!  At times, very feminine.  Other times, with hints of menswear.  Leopard and neon yellow?  Yes, please.  Mixed patterns?  Always.
