That one time I went on a 2 month blogging hiatus

Filed Under : MY LIFE - STYLE

Guys!!  It’s been so long.  My “week long” break from the blog has turned into a two month sabbatical and I’m not happy about it one bit.  I’ve really missed rambling about random things.  Like for example, A.) I went to a really fun book signing the other day that I could have mentioned; B.) I’ve been getting CSA boxes on the regular and I made a new kale salad that I wanted to share; and C.) I’ve been spending all my money on polka dots.  Item C is not really a new thing per se, but I thought I’d just reiterate the point.

Let me tell you what happened.  First, my good friend and very talented graphic designer, Ann-Marie Morris, redesigned my blog and I LOVE IT SO MUCH.  Obsessed!  She is amazing!!  But then I handed over her beautiful design to a programmer and that’s when things got weird.  I really hope you didn’t check the blog in that awkward stage it was in for a solid 4 weeks.  Anyway, cut to today and there are still some major kinks and font issues but it will all get sorted out eventually.  In the meantime, if you see anything extra weird, will you let me know?  Appresh.

By the way, so excited to be back – I have so many things to share and discuss.  Thank you for sticking by me while I took a little blog vacation.  There were a few days in there where I almost threw in the towel.  But let’s be honest, I love talking about random stuff TOO MUCH to quit.  So here I am, with a blog facelift and a few more polka dots in my closet.

I had such an amazing time in San Luis Obispo/Paso Robles with my friends this weekend.  We laughed, instagrammed, danced, and celebrated our friend’s beautiful wedding.  More on that tomorrow, though.

For now, an awesome photo of my hair, which I had thought was tightly secured in a milkmaid braid, but was greatly mistaken after a few gusts of wind decided to uproot it with ease.  You win some, you lose some, ya know?

Alexa Chung for Madewell

I’ve been waiting ever so patiently (8 months to be exact) for Alexa Chung’s Madewell collection to arrive and when it did, I was positively giddy.  Though it launched online September 9th, it didn’t actually hit stores until the 11th and I made sure to be at Madewell’s Century City location exactly when it opened (ok, 5 mins late).  Unlike my usual experiences with collaborations (ahem, Target and H&M), Madewell was FULLY stocked and well prepared for the influx of Alexa-lovers, including yours truly.

Every piece in the collection looks like it actually came from Alexa’s closet.  The fabrics and colors embody that ladylike and graceful charm from decades past.  Silks and velvets.  Polka dots and peter pan collars.  High-waisted jeans and flowing skirts.

I told myself I could buy only ONE thing.  That’s all I could afford, thanks a lot Alexa.  So I chose the Annie Blouse.  But then a certain special someone (who not only drove me to Madewell at 8:30am but then sat patiently while I tried on 3 dozen pieces of clothing) bought me the Betty Tea Dress!  He makes me smile.  And now my life is complete.

P.S. I also got a FREE (!) Alexa Chung for Madewell pencil pouch, ribbon, and handwritten (ok, photocopied) note from Alexa!  Best day ever.

Summer Dress Lovin’

May 24, 2010

Summer is slowing creeping upon us and I can’t wait for the sun to arrive in full force.  In preperation, I scoured my favorite online retailers, from ASOS to Need Supply Co., in search of the perfect summer dress.

As I started picking out my favorites, I noticed a trend with my choices.  They were either corset topped (or sweetheart neckline, if you prefer that terminology), striped (of course), or wildly printed.  So I narrowed it down to my favorite 3 in each of these categories:

The corset top dress is perfect for afternoon barbecues or picnics in the park with friends.  They’re so sweet and summery:

  1. Urban Renewal Striped Linen Bustier Dress, Urban Outfitters, $58
  2. Dahlia Net Layer Babydoll Dress, ASOS, $118.36
  3. Chambray Corset Dress, Victoria’s Secret, $39.99

These striped dresses can be worn during work hours or even on weekend beach trips.  They’re versatile and never go out of style:

  1. Dahlia Striped Full Belted Dress, ASOS, $93
  2. Striped Knit Dress, Need Supply Co., $48
  3. LnA Stripe Tee Dress, Revolve Clothing, $105

Even though the prints vary, they all pack a colorful punch – exactly what you need in the summer months!  I would wear the sweeter prints (like the florals and polka dots) during the day and the bolder prints (like the zig zag) for a night of cocktails with friends or on a date with my boyfriend:

  1. Contrast Pocket Dress, Need Supply Co., $48
  2. Dahlia Vintage Print Belted Dress, ASOS, $93
  3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Diamond Zigzag Dress, Shopbop, $258
