Smoothie Challenge

strawberry-banana smoothie

When I was in Palm Springs, we brunched at The Parker Hotel one day.  I don’t have much to say about the Parker besides the fact that they dislike poor, non-hotel guests (aka me), but I will give credit where credit is due: they make unbelievably delicious smoothies.  When the waitress at Norma’s rattled off the ingredients of their daily smoothie, I didn’t think it would be anything special.  But it was so good and refreshing.  Like so, so good.  Here are said ingredients:

  • strawberry
  • banana
  • nonfat yogurt
  • apple juice
  • honey

I wrote the ingredients down in my phone and took it as a challenge to replicate at home.  I’ve tried making it twice now and though it doesn’t quite match up to the Parker’s, the combination is fresh, sweet, and so very tasty.  Here’s what I used, though I’ll most likely switch it up again until I find the perfect balance:

  • 1 banana
  • 10-15 strawberries
  • 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey
  • lots o’ ice

burrito days

Do you ever have those days where all you crave all day long are burritos?  It happens to me about once a week, i.e. today.  Although, I would consider it a normal symptom of living in Southern California where Mexican food (and really good Mexican food) is aplenty.

I ate the above burrito a few days ago and I’m already ready for another.  Even though I have upcoming reservations at Mas Malo (total noms), I don’t think I can wait until then…sigh.

On Repeat…

For the last couple days, I’ve been feeling really crappy.  So crappy, in fact, that I’ve been forced to stay at home and do nothing all day.  It’s safe to say that I’m all caught up on every season of Real Housewives of New York (what an accomplishment) and have read the entire contents of my Google Reader (I had 1000+ unread posts last week).  When I wasn’t napping or watching hours of TV, here are the things that have kept me occupied and/or I’ve obsessed over during my sick days:

  1. I baked 5 dozen chocolate chip cookies (Nestle Toll House recipe) and I’ve been eating them nonstop for the past 4 days.
  2. Since my birthday was 3 months ago, I thought that NOW was a good time to send out some “thank you” cards (I’m such a slacker/horrible person).  I’ve been searching high and low for some unique “thank you’s” and I’m particularly fond of these Rifle Paper Co. cards.  They’re so colorful and cheery!
  3. Since my current pair of eyeglasses are almost out of commission, I’ve been searching for a new pair that’s equally functional and hip, like these Warby Parker Sinclair Eyeglasses.
  4. It’s been a daily struggle trying to figure out which colors of the Anthropologie Latte Bowls I want to get for my new kitchen.  I feel like the colors I choose will determine my entire color scheme.  Such decisions…
  5. I’ve been obsessing over the chevron pattern for months now and this Jonathan Adler Zig Zag Throw is perfection.
  6. Now that it’s springtime, my online shopping focus has shifted toward fun, colorful day dresses, like this Need Supply Co. Striped Dress.
  7. One of my favorite things to do is scroll through Pinterest and find unique jewelry, like this Anica Bangle Set.
  8. I’ve got baby showers on my mind!  One of my very good friends is preggers right now and I can’t stop thinking about all the fun things I want to get for her shower, like these Shop Sweet Lulu Stripey Straws for instance.

Spring Risotto

spring risotto

Happy Spring!  Though I’d prefer to celebrate the new season with outdoor picnics and trips to the farmer’s market, our current weather situation (what is this rain thing that’s happening?) is preventing me from doing any such activities.  Instead, I’ve been watching lots of American Pickers on TV, eating handfuls of Cadbury chocolate eggs,  and catching up on the April issue of Cooking Light.

When I came across this Cooking Light risotto recipe, I knew it would be a perfect way to kick off the spring season (bad weather or not).  First of all, it showcases asparagus (a spring vegetable) and I’m all for seasonal cooking.  Not only are veggies much cheaper when they’re in season, they’re also much tastier (I might just be imagining that they’re tastier, who knows).  Second of all, risotto is just plain delicious.

And this risotto was no exception!  I loved that it wasn’t super heavy but still had all the rich flavors of a classic risotto.  And the edamame/asparagus combo was like an added bonus point.  Speaking of bonus points, you have to stir risotto constantly for atleast 20 minutes so you’re getting a really nice arm workout in the process.  Overall, the finished product, with it’s creamy texture and flavorful bite, was a real crowd-pleaser.

PS- Looky looky what I found at Trader Joe’s for $3.99??  Ranunculus!!  My favorite ever.

march wish list

With springtime fast approaching, I feel myself starting to crave color and wild patterns (and canning cookbooks?).  Long, flowy skirts, perfectly polished olive green nails, geometric bangles – all of these items reflect the changing seasons and I’m LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

As you can see, I’m lusting after lots of tans, various shades of green and blue, yellow, gold, and hints of pink.  And who doesn’t love a chevron print in the form of a bathroom accessory?  Sign me up for that, please.  Instead of spring cleaning, I want to do the exact opposite and accumulate MORE things, namely these 10 items on my March wish list:

  1. Zara Long Skirt
  2. Madewell Brightside Bangle
  3. Canning For A New Generation cookbook
  4. Urban Outfitters Little Birch Jewelry Stand
  5. West Elm Graphic Porcelain Tumblers
  6. Clarks Botanicals Ultra Rich Lip Tint
  7. Scotch Naturals Nail Polish in Ceasefire
  8. Rennes Le Chateau Wallet Pouch
  9. Twoems Patterned Peacock Print (sold out…brb crying)
  10. MTWTFSS Weekday Endless Knit Sweater Beige
